Dr. Elaina Mezzasalma earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Miami and attained her Bachelor of Science in exercise science from Rutgers University. She competed in collegiate track and field as a javelin thrower. Competing at a high level and preventing injuries was her number one goal, which inspired her to pursue a career in physical therapy and injury rehabilitation.

Elaina has had a variety of clinical experiences in orthopedic and sports settings as well as inpatient rehab. She has enjoyed treating overuse injuries and post-surgical semi-pro and youth athletes, helping patients to walk again post-traumatic injury, and treating patients with a variety of neurological conditions return to home safely. Throughout her clinical experience, Elaina has gained an appreciation for orthopedics, pain science, and sports physical therapy. She intends on becoming a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist (OCS).

Elaina is enthusiastic about wellness, injury prevention, and community outreach. She has spent time volunteering at UMiami’s student-run pro bono clinic to provide physical therapy services to underserved Miami-Dade communities and worked alongside medical colleagues as the co-chair of the department of community service to provide free health screenings throughout South Florida. She is passionate about promoting exercise as medicine and hopes to instill new attitudes towards health and wellness in all of her patients as they work towards achieving their goals.

In her spare time, Elaina enjoys going on long walks with her dog, trying out new recipes, golfing, and rock climbing.
