Javier Benitez received his doctorate of physical therapy from Hunter College and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati, focusing on biomechanics and kinesiology.
His grad and undergraduate research included therapeutic exercise interventions for patients with Parkinson’s disease, as well as ACL injury prevention in adolescent female soccer and basketball players.
Javier has also been a personal trainer for over 15 years and is Pilates mat certified, which he constantly incorporates into his therapeutic treatments. He applies his understanding of exercise, movement, and anatomy to help patients understand the rationale behind their physical therapy treatment, as well as the long-term benefits of maintaining an exercise program for the rest of their lives.
Javier prides himself on educating his patients on proper form and technique, so they may get the most out of their therapy, as well as prevent injuries in the future.
On Saturday mornings, Javier is a coach committee member of New York’s KEEN chapter, overseeing weekend volunteer programs with children with various cognitive and developmental impairments in New York City. When he’s not in the office, Javier enjoys working on his pull up and deadlift max, cycling up the west side of Manhattan, and cooking new recipes.
Why did you want to become a Physical Therapist?
I became a physical therapist to educate people on the rehabilitative and preventative benefits of physical therapy, to strive to surpass their pre-injury/pre-surgical fitness levels and to teach people the value of maintaining an active lifestyle throughout their lives.
